PIA Airport is located approximately 15 km southwest of Pristina, the capital of Kosovo. It is the only international airport in Kosovo and only port of entry for civilian air travelers to Kosovo. It serves a catchment area with a population of approximately 2,5 million. Passenger throughput is driven primarily by diaspora traffic. PIA airport has an annual capacity of approximately 2 million passengers. This capacity is planning to increase to 4,5 million annual passenger capacity. PIA handled 1,3 million international passengers in 2010.
Public Private Partnership Agreement was signed with the Government of the Republic of Kosovo on 12 August 2010. Limak Yatırım intends to have 49% share in the Company who won the right to operate and develop Pristina International Adem Jashari Airport as of April 2011. The Company is granted to operate PIA Airport for 20 years under the scope of Build-Operate-Transfer model. The concession right includes all airport facilities except air traffic control and air traffic security.
As of 2010, 38 airlines operated flights at the Airport. Based on passenger numbers, Edelweiss, Austrian Airlines, Swissair, Air Berlin, Adria Airlines, Turkish Airlines and Germanwings were the most active airline carriers. The three country that the airline carriers mostly flew are Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
